Introduction

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology standard that is used for exchanging data between fixed and mobile devices over short distances and building personal area networks. In the most widely used mode, transmission power is limited to 2.5 milliwatts, giving it a very short range of up to 10 meters. Devices connected in a Bluetooth network communicate with each other using ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio waves. These are electromagnetic waves with frequencies around 2.4 gigahertz (2.4 billion waves per second).


Bluetooth technology operates on radio frequencies in the 2.4 GHz range. The two Bluetooth standards currently in use today about: Bluetooth Classic, which supports two distance data rate, Basic Rate (BR) and Enhanced Data Rate (EDR). 



The name dates back more than a millennia to King Harald “Bluetooth” Grossmont who was well known for two things: Uniting Denmark and Norway in 1958.


  • Bluetooth technology allow devices to communicate with each other without cables or wires.
  • Bluetooth relies on short-range radio frequency, and any device that incorporates the technology can communicate as long as it is within the required.
  • Jaap Heartens has been active in the area of wireless communications for more than 25 years. 
  • In 1994, he laid the foundations for the system that was later known as the Bluetooth Wireless Technology, enabling connections between a seemingly endless array of devices.
